The Tyne Wear Camping and Caravan Club is new, so new it is governed by a steering committee at this point in time. The stearing committee will hand over total controle to the elected committee at the first AGM. This will take place some time after Febuary 2007.
Our founder has camped and caravaned from being seven years old. He remembers the excitement of sleeping in a tent as a child whilst listening to the sound of an owl or a distant train as he dropped off to sleep.
When he was a teenager he used to cycle with a tent and packed pannier bags over the wheels of his cycle. He left the coalfields of Durham and cycled to North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and Cumbria for weekends and Pit Holidays.
Then came the days of his own children, he remembers how much of a rush it was to get home from work, pack the car, get the children from school. To be on the road ensuring by the time the tent was up and a meal was made it would not be to late for the kids to be up. How difficult it was to find a campsite that was not to far away to make this possible.
Now middle aged he and his wife are caravaners and travel all over the country and are away most weekends throughout the year. Even at this stage in life at times they still want to go away with friends without too much travelling.
So with all these memories and knowledge and a little more time on his hands he thought his wife and himself would try to form a club
